About Growthflow

A regional news portal dedicated to keeping Calgary and surrounding communities informed about what matters most.

Our story

Growthflow started with a simple observation. People wanted to know what was happening in their own backyard, and the coverage just wasn't there. National outlets covered the big stories, sure, but the city council vote affecting your street? The new community center opening three blocks away? That information was scattered, incomplete, or missing entirely.

So we built something different. A regional information portal focused specifically on Calgary and the communities that surround it. Our editorial team writes about local politics, cultural events, social initiatives, and the incidents that shape daily life here. We cover the stories that matter to residents — the ones that actually affect how you live, work, and raise your family in this region.

The work isn't glamorous. It means sitting through long municipal meetings. It means following up on tips about infrastructure projects that won't be finished for years. It means explaining complex policy decisions in plain language so readers can understand what's actually changing and why.

We publish consistently because communities deserve consistent information. Not sensationalized headlines designed to generate clicks, but straightforward reporting on what's happening in your city and the areas around it. That's the approach we've maintained from the beginning, and it's the approach we continue today.

What drives us

Local journalism matters. That's not a slogan — it's the foundation of everything we do at Growthflow. When residents understand local politics, they vote more thoughtfully. When they know about cultural events, they participate in community life. When they're informed about social initiatives, they contribute to them.

Our mission is straightforward: provide accurate, timely information about Calgary and neighboring communities. We cover political developments, economic news, social issues, arts and culture, sports, science and technology, and international events that affect our region. The goal isn't to tell people what to think. It's to give them the information they need to make their own decisions.

We believe informed communities are stronger communities. Full stop.

What we stand for

Accuracy first

We verify before we publish. Every story goes through editorial review, and we correct errors promptly when they occur. Getting it right matters more than getting it first.

Local focus

National news has plenty of outlets covering it. We concentrate on Calgary and surrounding communities — the stories that directly impact life here. That's our lane, and we stay in it.

Accessible language

Municipal budgets and zoning laws aren't simple topics. But explaining them clearly is part of the job. We write for readers, not for other journalists or policy experts.

Community accountability

We report on public institutions and how they serve residents. Not to generate controversy, but because transparency strengthens the relationship between communities and the systems that serve them.

Key moments

The path that brought us here

Founding

The beginning

Growthflow launched with a small editorial team and a clear mission: fill the gap in regional news coverage for Calgary residents.

Building readership

Growing our audience

Word spread through the community. Readers started sharing stories with neighbors, and our coverage areas expanded to include surrounding communities.

Expanding coverage

Broader beats

We added dedicated coverage for sports, science and technology, and international events affecting the region. The team grew to match the scope.

Community integration

Becoming a local resource

Residents began reaching out with tips and story ideas. We became part of the information ecosystem here, not just observers of it.

Present day

Continuing the work

Today we publish daily coverage across all our beats, maintaining the same commitment to accuracy and local relevance we started with.

How we work

Our editorial team operates from Calgary, covering stories across the city and neighboring areas. We maintain beats in political news, economy and finance, society and social issues, culture and arts, sports, science and technology, and international events relevant to our readers. Each beat has dedicated attention, not just occasional coverage when something major happens.

Readers can reach us at [email protected] or by phone at +1 403-555-9921 during our operating hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We're located at 220 8 Ave SW in Calgary. Story tips, corrections, and feedback are always welcome.

The newsroom stays active because the community stays active. There's always something happening in Calgary worth covering, and we're here to cover it.
